A global research initiative for the evaluation of safe motherhood intervention strategies

Research Areas

** An update of Immpact Research Areas is under development and will be available soon.**

Immpact's research plans are built on a collaborative network of scientists and related expert personnel who work together to build on the innovative findings from Phase 1. February 2007 saw the much-anticipated release of our key messages and findings through the Immpact Symposium: Delivering Safer Motherhood. This event built-on the key messages communicated in the recent Lancet Safe Motherhood supplement and also marked the end of Phase 1 of Immpact research activities.

The following year saw the Immpact project team focussing efforts on sharing Immpact evidence and tools - a substantial task after four years of extensive evaluation research. Realizing the need to communicate to the broader global audience, dissemination activities were launched a regional, national and international levels through a range of events. We also continue to work on the publication of methodological and substantive findings and we are pleased to report forthcoming special journal supplements which enable comprehensive reporting of evaluation findings from our focus countries (Please see our Publications log for specific citation listings):

Burkina Faso: Tropical Medicine International Health - Special Supplement
Ghana: Ghana Medical Journal Special Supplement

Indonesia: we are continuing to explore options for a suitable journal venue for the Indonesia findings

Phase II of Immpact research efforts are in place and further funding efforts are expected to support activities through to 2012. The focus of activities is on the goal of reducing maternal mortality in poor countries by working to improve policy and programme decision making via robust evaluation and measurement. In order to achieve the goal, efforts will continue to be devoted to the continuous improvement of data to reduce maternal mortality.

For more information on completed work on the enhancement of methods for measurement of maternal mortality and related indicators see the MM+ section. For more information on how Immpact works towards effective communication see the Communicating Findings section.
